Tactics For Students To Successfully Defend Themselves Whenever Left Alone

By Typhani D Boissiere

My parents grew to become worried when a schoolmate of mine was said missing. Her own mother and father went to our college campus and some of her pals were questioned, as well.

I walk to school considering that we only live several blocks away but this distance did very little to make my mother and father feel at ease with my safety. Therefore, my mom bought me a pink pepper spray keychain that she then connected onto my backpack.

Even though I walk home together with other kids, occasionally their parents fetch them and I would be left alone. This was what my folks were concerned about.

Given that mom and dad aren't always present to keep a close eye on me, they believe that kidnappers is going to attack in one of those moments. So long as my mom got the compact pepper spray off a self-defense store, she briefed me on the best way to utilize it and when.

I had seen small pepper sprays in the past but it never struck me that I will need one sooner or later. She got me a 1/2 oz. Pepper Shot with colored leatherette carrier. It is a small device that is included with a quick key release key chain. In spite of its size, it could produce 6 to 10 one-second bursts at a range of 6 to 8 feet.

She explained to me that my own key chain pepper spray is non fatal nor any other kind of defense spray. I just have to spray straight at the target then run as quickly as I could. It could obstruct the air passages and swell the mucous membrane but the effects will fizzle out in a few moments.

Mom pointed out to call attention to passersby or go to the closest safe place such as my school or the police station. Once there, I must call her number or my dad's.

Before I head out for school, I look at my things to check if my pink pepper spray keychain is there. As scary as the idea of being attacked is, I am aware that I am properly protected with it even if alone.
