How Stress Has An Effect On Your Health and What You Can Do About It Now

By Annie Grimm

Everyone know what stress is, but few of us know exactly what stress does to our bodies. Even less know what we can do about it. Everyday there is an attack of stressors in our lives. Stress is our body's way of rising to a challenge. Stress is a life threatening situation (or at least our bodies believe it's life-endangering). Our bodies instantly turn on a stress response solely from a psychological state, like public speaking or dealing with an indignant, roaring person. Although these circumstances are not a life or death situation, the body will treat these scenarios as if they were.

There are two hormones which are present in any nerve-racking situation; adrenaline (epinephrine) and glucocorticoid--these are the two components of the stress response. A high frequency of occurrence of these hormones leads to protracted sickness.

Our bodies respond to stress in a number of ways. It jeopardizes our health by causing increased heart rate, high blood pressure, immune mechanism dysfunction (including temporarily shutting down all non-essential functions), killing brain cells (which affects learning and memory--the hippocampus center of the brain) and even causes plaque build up in the arteries (atherosclerosis), among lots of other issues.

Stress has effects on the way our bodies function and it will affect our health today and for several years to come. So what are we able to do? There are wonderful supplements for stress on the present market to help you deal with stress. Try and have a happier outlook on life; laugh more, love more and exercise regularly.
