Losing weight with NLP

By Henry Stone

Whether you have tried and failed at other weight loss methods such as calorie counting or attending the gym, or you simply don't know where to start, NLP offers a different way of thinking about losing weight. By changing the way we think about food and exercise and installing the all-important belief that we can achieve our goals, NLP works through a number of psychological methods.

Sticking to the right foods is often the hardest aspect of dieting to maintain. Fatty and sweet foods are always so temping, but NLP works by changing the way we think of such foods, from how they taste to what they are doing to our bodies. By making us think negatively about the likes of doughnuts and chocolate, sticking to a healthy diet suddenly becomes much easier.

But just as we are drawn to such unhealthy foods, our minds often reject the types of food that are good for us. Green vegetables, for example, which were perhaps forced on us as children, are often continually rejected by us as adults because subconsciously our minds are reverting back. But again, NLP challenges these reactions by overriding them with new, positive ones.

This overriding of attitudes is also used to encourage exercise. By changing the way we think about exercise (that it is tiring and a lot of effort) so that we focus on the benefits (the burning of fat and the fact it makes us feel alive), NLP helps to make us tell our body what it wants, and not the other way round.

NLP doesn't just offer these practical methods to losing weight, but also a range of psychological methods (such as hypnosis and other mind-control techniques) to give us the motivation to start and maintain a successful weight loss routine. Many of us lack the self-belief that we can achieve our ideal weight, but NLP works by making us believe that we can be in control of our own bodies.
