Selecting the Right Footwear For the Right Occasion

By Jackson Lee

It is very common to buy a wrong pair of shoes. Doing so may not only be a monetary waste but also affect your feet. Of course, incorrect shoes may cause medical conditions in your feet. You got to wear the right pair of shoes in order to avoid such foot problems. The foot wear must be shopped based on the type of foot, body and physical activity.

Learning about the various arch profiles is the first step to buying foot wear. Foot arches are categorized into 3 types namely normal, flat and high. You can identify your foot type by observing your foot prints thoroughly. A foot print that shows a half arch is often a normal arch. Almost all types of shoes fit well for a normal arched foot. Arched foot is also considered to be flexible and balanced. Stability shoes would work great if a person with normal arched foot performs more physical activities like running and walking. Otherwise, a moderate cushion shoe would be ideal for a normal arch.

If you find your foot print displaying the entire foot, then you might have a low arch or a flat arch. Most often, the inner side of the foot may not have enough balance for those with low or flat arch. So, wearing a motion controlled shoe can prevent the inward pronation for people with low arch.

If you find your foot print displaying the foot ball and the heel, then you might have a high arch. Wearing a cushion shoe will help in providing an inward pronation as the high arch foot is not capable of absorbing shock.

Pointed shoes and delicate shoes with heels would be appropriate for skinny ankles. Those with skinny ankles should refrain from wearing bulky shoes as it may look too big on the ankles. A bolder should would be good for thicker ankles as it would balance the ankle width. Also, ankle strapped footwear and heeled foot wear are not ideal for thicker ankles.

Before you shop boots, make sure that the boots fits well on the calf of the legs. Also, identify whether the boots match with the leg shape. A thick heeled boots will help you balance the looks if you have a larger body frame. But make sure not to war ankle straps because it may get your legs to appear shorter. If your legs are medium to short then you mules and thongs would be perfect for your feet. Keep away from shoes that are prick as it may affect your feet very badly.

While shopping walking shoes, make sure the front portion of the shoes are flexible and bend easily. Try wearing those shoes and test whether you are able to move your toes freely. Figure out whether the heel is properly cupped inside the shoe. This way the shoe will offer adequate cushioning and stability. Also, find out whether the heels are supported well. You can do it by leaning your heels on the shoes and assessing its support. It is always wiser to buy those shoes with thick tongue as it may help in protecting your feet from the friction that is caused due to laces. If you want to secure the Achilles tendon while running, it is important to buy a shoe with a padding on the ankle collar.
