Advantages Of Steel Buildings And Structures

By Adriana Noton

Steel is a material of enormous use especially in building and structure. It has always been used since First World War to build structures and buildings. This has been the case due to the fact that it has incredible combination of physical and chemical properties. Some of this properties are it strength compared to its weight. It is one of the most used materials that is currently used to measure the economic development of a give country. The more a place has steel buildings and structures the more economically stable it is likely to be.

People all over the world use this materials in a wide range of area. This include recreation facilities, strip mall, buildings, fire proof cabinets and mechanical devices. It has mechanical and chemical stability making it one of the most important materials in the world of building and construction.

Steel structures have reduced environmental disruption to the site. Factory of components are much less wasteful and are delivered on site in time. This makes the installation disruptive to the surrounding area.

Steel column are thinner than the result in the area of the ground. This makes the cost of foundation to reduce. The foundation is usually smaller in size due to the reduced weight. It is true to say that the material offers a much less weight compared to its strength. This make it best construction material to use.

Steel can be combined with other metal to form an alloy. Aluminized steel is one the alloy formed by hot dipping it to coat it on both sides with aluminum-silicon alloy. This reduces corrosive effect of the material, it therefore useful in formation of heat exchangers like furnace, oven, mufflers and water heats.

Steel has physical properties that can allow the tensile and compression stress without breaking. During earthquake and devastating wind the building cannot be destroyed and it is able to withstand the stress. The material is not combustible and therefore cannot cause fire in your building. It is also in organic and therefore does not warp, rot creep or crack.

the material is malleable hence can easily be manipulated to different shapes and therefore used in formation of structures of different shapes. Although it is very strong it is the lightest building material as far as the ratio of strength is concern. It does not easily corrode on exposure to moisture and water. It can therefore last long under exposure to extreme environmental conditions. Some structures need components that can conduct electricity hence steel offers a better option in addition to other advantages.

Catastrophes like earthquake and tsunamis are very common nowadays. This makes it hard to design buildings that are tolerant to such conditions. It provide very strong buildings and this make steel buildings and structures the best since the can put up with such conditions. The tolerance is enhanced by the ductility nature of steel frames and ability to recover from seismic stress.
